Why Should You Insulate The Attic?

If your home doesn't have adequate attic insulation, you're most likely paying higher energy bills. It's estimated that up to 40% of the heat loss occurs through the roof. Whether you live in a new or old house, it's important to check the level of attic insulation and add to it if necessary.

Generally speaking, attic insulation is installed with two different methods:

*Loose Fill. It's also known as blown in insulation. This comes in the form of fiberglass or cellulose. It's easier to install, usually less expensive and will give you better coverage.

*Batt Insulation. This is usually made of fiberglass and is sold in bags or rolls. It comes in various thicknesses that determine it's R-Value. It can be purchased with or without a vapor barrier attached. Installing batt insulation is more labor intensive and will cost you more.

This website contains complete instructions on how to install insulation by doing it yourself.
